The UN’s health agency reports concerns about more severe variants of SARS-CoV-2 evolving globally. The latest figures from the WHO show that between 24 June and 21 July 2024, new hospitalizations increased by 11% and ICU admissions by 3% compared to the previous month. “Data from our sentinel-based surveillance system across 84 countries reports that the percent of positive tests for SARS-CoV-2 has been rising over several weeks,” said the WHO’s Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove. Mounir Nasraoui, the father of teenage Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, was stabbed late Wednesday, several Spanish media outlets reported. Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reported that he was in a serious but stable condition. The Catalan police lead the investigation into the attack but have not publicly commented on the incident. The first German woman is set to fly into space on board a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket along with four other astronauts, the private space exploration company said on Wednesday. Rabea Rogge was introduced by SpaceX as a “robotics researcher” who studied electrical engineering and information technology at ETH Zurich. For her doctoral thesis, she transferred to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The mission, called Fram2, is going to be the first human spaceflight over the Earth’s poles. Argentina’s former President, Alberto Fernandez, was formally charged with committing violence against former first lady Fabiola Yanez on Wednesday.
