Police and firefighters rushed to the scene where the ceiling of the Medusa Beach Club in popular holiday hotspot Playa de Palma caved in.
Hordes of emergency service vehicles gathered around the club, including several firefighter trucks.
Dramatic pictures show them setting up ladders and cordons around the building as they try to rescue those trapped inside.
Those who have been saved from the collapsed building are being treated for their injuries in the street.
Earlier reports suggested up to 10 people were trapped inside.
There is no confirmation yet of whether those who have died or been injured are locals or tourists.
Neighbours said they heard a loud noise and screams from those who were trapped inside before alerting cops at around 8pm.
Early reports said a false ceiling inside the two-storey club had collapsed, but this has since been ruled out.
Eyewitnesses said the top terrace of the beach club’s restaurant instead caved in, the Majorca Daily Bulletin reports.
Raul, an employee from the shop next door, told CadenaSER: “Everything fell, completely.
“It was very loud and there were a lot of people inside.
“A very loud sound was heard. There were people eating, people upstairs… the top floor fell.”
Police sources told the outlet that there is now a “cavity in the rubble” where they rescued a worker – who has been left with a broken arm.
Cops have also said the death toll is likely to rise.
Bystanders have reportedly crowded outside of the building with some fears from tourists that their loved ones are trapped inside.
A local official said: “We have activated an emergency response as a result of the collapse of the ceiling of a two-storey building in Avenida Cartago in Playa de Palma, where people are trapped.
“Firefighters and local police are at the scene.
They later added: “Four people have died and 21 have been injured in the collapse of a building in Cartago Street in Playa de Palma.”
“Emergency responders are still at the scene.”
One of the people killed has been named locally as Abdoulaye Diop, a Senegalese migrant living in Majorca.
He was working as a nightclub doorman who in 2017 saved a man from drowning in the sea in Palma.
All ambulances in Palma have been ferried to Cartago street, now brimming with rescue workers.
The Medusa Beach Club, popular with tourists, is located metres from Cullera beach.
Playa de Palma is a beach resort east of the Majorcan capital.
President of the Baleric Islands Marga Prohens wrote on X this evening: “Shocked by the information I received about the collapse of Platja de Palma.
“Sending all my affection and warmth to the families of the four people who lost their lives in this tragic incident and wishing the recovery of all the injured.
“Thanks to all the emergency services that have been dispatched to the scene and continue to work there.”
Around 3.2 million Brits travel to Majorca each year.
