At least 10 people have been injured in a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday during a Super Bowl victory parade for the Chiefs, local first responders said.
A spokesperson with the Kansas City fire department said that upwards of 10 people were injured during the shooting, CNN reported.
The condition of the victims was not immediately clear, or whether all had been hit by gunfire. One person was reported dead, Reuters reported, citing fire department sources telling ABC TV.
The White House said on Wednesday afternoon that they were also monitoring the Kansas City shooting, as federal law enforcement officials arrived at the scene.
The Kansas City police department said the shooting took place near Union Station, where hundreds had gathered to celebrate Sunday’s Super Bowl victory.
“At the conclusion of the rally there were shots fired west of Union Station near the garage and several people were struck,” said a Kansas City police department spokesperson, Jake Becchina, the Kansas City Star reported.
Two armed people were taken into custody, police added.
The Kansas City fire department confirmed that a shooting had occurred close to Union Station in the city and referred to a “fluid situation”, according to local media reports.
Video footage showed the chaotic scene near Union station, as police and first responders rushed to the area while attendees ran to safety.
Hank Hunter, 16, who traveled to the celebration from Westwood, Kansas, told the Kansas City Star that he heard what sounded like multiple gunshots as he and a friend ran.
“We heard the shots. It sounded like a multitude of shots,” Hunter said, adding that he didn’t see the shooter, but saw multiple cops responding to the shooting.
