Unai Emery has signed a five-year contract with Aston Villa until 2029, giving the club a major boost as they prepare for their first season in the Champions League.
Villa co-owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens will make signing Emery a new long-term deal this summer as their priority after an excellent Premier League campaign Task. Villa finished fourth in the league, meaning they qualified for Europe’s top competition for the first time since 1982-83, the season after they won the European Cup.
Emery has transformed the club’s fortunes since taking charge in October 2022, when the club faced relegation, but has been rewarded with complete autonomy. He works closely with president of football Monchi and director of football operations Damian Vidagany.
Villa chairman Sawiris said: “We are building something special at Aston Villa with Unai at the heart of it and we are delighted that he has signed a new contract. “As we enter our historic 150th anniversary year Now, with Unai at the helm, there’s a lot to look forward to.”
Last month, Villa extended Emery’s previous contract until 2027 to stave off interest from clubs including Bayern Munich, but they had been planning to discuss a longer deal in the final season.
“We’re really excited to go on this journey without being limited by our dreams,” said the villa manager. “I’m delighted to take this step and take on the responsibility of leading this club.”

Ross Barkley could be one of Villa’s first signings this summer, with the midfielder set to join from relegated Luton Town. The 30-year-old spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Villa Park from Chelsea, making 24 appearances, but is set to return to the club permanently on a cheap fee.
