Apple is working to fix an issue that’s causing some users to complain that their iPhone alarms aren’t going off, or are playing too quietly.
The company said it was aware of the issue, which was also noticed by TikTok users who complained about incidents where the alarm failed to go off.
“This is probably the third or fourth day in a row that my alarm hasn’t gone off,” one TikTok user said.
“I’ve noticed that my alarm hasn’t been waking me up for the past week or so,” another said. Users said the issue was causing problems with their timekeeping.
Apple says it’s working to quickly resolve the issue, but it’s unclear how many people are affected or which devices are involved.
Another TikTok user said in a video that has been viewed nearly 10 million times that their iPhone 15 alarm was ringing at the “lowest volume,” claiming the issue was related to the “attention awareness” feature enabled on the phone. “Apple do you want to fire people?” the user added.
Apple declined to comment on whether the feature was the cause of the alarm clock issue, which was first reported by NBC’s “Today” show. The attention-sensing feature lowers the alarm sound if the user is looking at their device. If you’re looking at your phone, it will also dim the display until you stop looking at it.
Apple has an online advice page about alarm clocks, stating that the alarm volume can be controlled through the “Sounds & Touch” feature under Settings, adding that the “Do Not Disturb” and “Silent Mode” options will not affect the alarm sound. The page also advises users to check whether the alarm sound is set to “none.”
