British maritime security company Ambrey said on Saturday that a security team on board a bulk carrier exchanged fire with gunmen on board a small boat, 700 nautical miles southeast of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman.
“The boat approached for 300 meters before returning towards the ship from which it came,” Ambry said, adding that the crew and ship were safe.
The Houthis have launched waves of missiles and drones loaded with explosive materials at ships since last November 19, in response to the Zionist aggression in Gaza.
Some shipping companies have suspended crossings from the Red Sea and taken much longer and more expensive trips around Africa.
