The Director General of Corrections in the Kurdistan Region, Ihsan Abdul Rahman, announced today, Tuesday, that Kurdistan prisons allow “legitimate seclusion” once a week for two hours.
Abdul Rahman said during a press conference, “More than 5,000 people entered the reformatories during the first 5 months of this year.”
He explained that “the total number of prisoners in all prisons of the Kurdistan Region for the first six months of 2024, including all subjects, amounted to 5,466 people.”
He added that “the total number of prisoners in prisons reached 4,311 people, and the total number of those released reached 3,934 people. Regarding the education of prisoners in prisons, he said: The number of students during this year for all primary and secondary levels, colleges and universities, inside the correctional facilities reached 474 students.”

The Director General of Prisons in the region said, “Legal seclusion is allowed in the prisons of the Kurdistan Region, once a week for two hours, which led to a decrease in the divorce rate from 100% to 0% divorce,” adding that “2,848 people held wedding parties.”
