Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani made a phone call today, Monday, with the new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and extended an invitation to him to visit Iraq.
The Prime Minister’s media office explained in a statement received by “Al-Rasheed” that “Al-Sudani, during the call, congratulated the Iranian president on the occasion of his victory in the elections, and also congratulated the Islamic Republic on its success in holding the elections within a short period, and at a critical stage experienced by Iran, government and people, after the painful plane crash that claimed the lives of the Iranian president, the foreign minister and their companions.”
He added, “The call witnessed discussion of bilateral relations, and emphasis on the continuation of joint cooperation efforts in various sectors and economic and security files, in a way that enhances the interests of the two neighboring countries and the prosperity of their peoples. The Prime Minister also extended an official invitation to the Iranian President-elect to visit Iraq to strengthen relations and discuss a number of important files.”
The statement indicated that “Bezeshkian expressed his thanks to Al-Sudani, stressing his country’s keenness to expand cooperation and support bilateral understandings in many areas, in a way that enhances the efforts of the two countries and the region’s stability.”
