Prime Minister, Mr. Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, discussed by telephone with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, today, Wednesday, developments in the situation in the region.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated, in a statement received by Al-Rasheed, that “This evening, Al-Sudani received a phone call from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and during the call, coordination with the international organization on various issues and the future relationship between Iraq and the United Nations was discussed.” Developments in the situation in the region were also discussed, especially with the continuation of the war in Gaza, which has caused serious humanitarian and security repercussions that require accelerating the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to the people in the Gaza Strip.
He added, “Al-Sudani appreciated Guterres’ positions calling for stopping the war in Gaza, which are consistent with Iraq’s positions, which emphasize preventing escalation and sparing the region from events sliding toward dangerous turns.”
The statement continued, “Guterres stressed the need to stop the war on Gaza and spare the region from further repercussions and tensions, praising Iraq’s role and its continued efforts to communicate to achieve calm and prevent the expansion of the circle of conflict.”
