Baghdad/NinaPrime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani chaired, this Saturday evening, in Basra Governorate, a special meeting on the seawater desalination project, in the presence of the Al-Rida Group coalition and Power China Company, which are implementing the project, the Basra Governor and the Prime Minister’s advisors.
During the meeting, the coalition reviewed its plan for this important project for Basra, which the government adopted from the beginning of its formation, included it in the government program and the federal budget, and transferred it from the Ministry of Construction and Housing to Basra Governorate, in accordance with Cabinet Resolution (23425) at its session held on August 1, 2023. .
The Prime Minister was briefed on the final stages of negotiation and the findings of the committee headed by the Governor of Basra with the coalition implementing the project, stressing that the completion period would be reduced.
Al-Sudani directed that the issue be resolved and the minutes of the meeting be submitted to the government so that the Council of Ministers could take the appropriate decision, ensuring that obstacles were overcome and the completion of the project expedited.
It is noteworthy that this project will be the largest in the world among the rest of the projects for seawater desalination, as it will operate with a capacity of one million cubic meters per day, sufficient to meet the needs of 3-4 million people of Basra.
