Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, issued a number of directives regarding the work of the General Company for Private Transport Management, in addition to taking into account the recommendations of the Integrity Commission to improve the company’s work.
A statement by the Ministry’s media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said, “The Minister of Transport directed the Special Transport Department to enhance the supervisory work in public garages, enhance electronic collection procedures and improve the level of service in all garages,” noting that “Al-Saadawi also directed to intensify campaigns to combat random transportation in the approaches to public garages, and to follow up on the work of drivers and meet their needs inside those garages.”
He added, “In response to the Integrity Commission’s report on the work of the General Company for Private Transport Management, the ministry explained in its statement that the company owns 2,500 properties, including (unified and regular garages), shops, bathrooms, and health centers,” indicating that “some of the violations on the (26) encroached properties, which were indicated in the report, were committed by government agencies and departments, and there are several communications to remove them and return them to the company.”
He continued, “Regarding the operation of the electronic gates, which were installed in 2017, they are subject to joint investment between the public and private sectors, and therefore any malfunction in the Internet network or technical fault is quickly addressed and repaired, within hours, because this causes losses to investors and the company.”
For his part, the company’s general manager, Ahmed Abdul Ayoub Al-Moussawi, said, according to the statement: “The General Company for Private Transport Management has completed the procedures for purchasing the property in question from the Federation of Workers’ Unions, and now we are in the process of transferring the ownership of the property to the company, and completing the procedures for approving it.”
