The National Security Agency renewed its emphasis on protecting the privacy of individuals and institutions, today, Tuesday, after the increase in cyber attacks on financial institutions globally.
The Authority said in a statement received by Al-Rasheed, “Due to the increase in cyber attacks and fraud operations targeting global financial institutions and individuals, and after the increase in complaints received by our Authority in cases of electronic fraud, we call on citizens to periodically follow up on financial movements and purchase and withdrawal operations for their electronic payment cards, and in noticing the presence of unknown financial movements in your cards, you must quickly inform the company, bank or entity issuing the electronic card and change the information and passwords immediately.”
He added, “To prevent theft and financial fraud, we would like to inform you that the companies issuing financial cards do not contact the customer except in very rare cases and do not request your card’s password,” stressing “the need to make purchases from trusted sources (such as websites and applications), and that the secret code you receive when you receive your financial credit card should not be shared with anyone, even with the bank, the issuing company, or the outlet.”
He reiterated “the importance of taking the necessary measures to protect personal accounts, especially after we noticed that some citizens were harmed by electronic fraud, as the number of complaints reached 1,300 during the past six weeks,” noting that “work is underway to address them and refer those involved to the judiciary to take the necessary measures against them in accordance with the law.”
