Istanbul /Nina/ Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin announced that his country is studying a Turkish initiative to secure the passage of commercial ships in the Black Sea.
Turkish media quoted the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister as confirming that Russia is studying a proposal submitted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after consultations he conducted with the United Nations for a list of security pledges to ensure the safety of commercial ships in the Black Sea.
Sergei Vershinin said: We are aware of such ideas contained in the Turkish President’s proposal and we are currently evaluating them.
The Turkish President stressed in a video message he sent to the Ukraine-Southeastern Europe Summit held in Albania on February 28 that “there is a need for systems to ensure the safety of commercial ships in the Black Sea and we continue to consult with the United Nations in order to prepare a list of security pledges.” ./I finish
