The Pentagon’s Central Command announced that a US destroyer shot down an anti-ship missile fired by the Houthis in the Aden Strait, possibly targeting an oil tanker.
The command said in its statement: “On the evening of February 24, local time, the USS Mason shot down an anti-ship missile that was launched from an area controlled by the Houthis in Yemen. It is likely that the missile was targeting the American petrochemical tanker Torm Thor.”
The command added that the destroyer and tanker were not damaged as a result.
The US Central Command, Centcom, announced earlier that the attack launched by the Houthis on the ship “Rubimar” on February 18 in the Red Sea caused an oil leak, warning of an environmental catastrophe.
In solidarity with the Gaza Strip, the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) is targeting cargo ships in the Red Sea owned and operated by Israeli companies that transport goods to and from Israel, according to the group’s statements.
In response, the United States and its allies formed a military force to deal with the Houthi strikes, as American and British aircraft had previously launched numerous strikes on various areas in Yemen.
