The Director General of the Roads and Bridges Department in the Ministry, Hussein Jassim Kazem, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “an ambitious plan has been developed to improve the situation of the roads and bridges sector in Diwaniyah Governorate, in implementation of the government program regarding the axis of providing services and supporting the poorest governorates, including Diwaniyah Governorate, which is in urgent need of implementing many road and bridge projects there.”
He explained, “We have previously initiated the implementation of projects to replace iron bridges in the governorate with fixed concrete bridges according to the latest technical specifications, and the completion of many of them in the districts and districts of the governorate, including the Republic Bridge in the center of Diwaniyah Governorate, which was opened today, in addition to achieving advanced stages of the project to expand the entrance to the governorate link.” With the expressway, which is expected to be completed and opened in the first quarter of next year.”
He added, “There is a plan related to developing and rehabilitating the main roads in the governorate, which it is hoped will be started early next year, including the (Najaf-Diwaniyah) road, as it is an important corridor for visitors towards the holy cities, as well as a plan to expand the (Hillat-Diwaniyah) road all the way to Babil Governorate, and developing and extending some roads.” To be more like annual roads, including the continuation of the road linking the southern entrance of the governorate towards the highway, as another stage, extending from the (Samawah_Diwaniyah) road to the (Diwaniyah_Najaf) road near the Shafi’iyya district, which will greatly facilitate the flow of traffic of vehicles coming from the governorates and lift the burden that they currently pose as a result of their passage. inside the city.”
