The Independent High Electoral Commission revealed, today, Saturday, the number of candidates and alliances for the Kurdistan Parliament elections.
The spokeswoman for the commission, Jumana Al-Ghalay, said in a statement received by Al-Rasheed, “The process of registering entities resulted in the registration of 139 lists, and the number of parties is 13 parties, while the number of individual candidates for the Christian components reached 19 candidates.”
She added, “The Christian component candidates are distributed as follows: 7 candidates in Erbil, 4 in Sulaymaniyah, and 8 in Dohuk.”
She pointed out that “the number of candidates from the Turkmen component reached 20 candidates, including 14 in Erbil and 6 in Sulaymaniyah.”
Al-Ghalay confirmed that “the number of individual candidates reached 85 candidates,” noting that “the commission, specifically the specialized committee in the Kurdistan Region, has begun to review and analyze the candidates’ data, for the purpose of sending it for verification, which is the Federal Integrity Commission and the Ministry of Interior in the region.”
Commission spokeswoman Jumana Al-Ghalay added, “The draw for candidates will begin in the first half of next August.”
