The Ministry of Interior announced today, Friday, the arrest of 10 suspects and the seizure of 5 vehicles used to smuggle oil derivatives in the governorates of Baghdad and Basra.
The ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the detachments of the Eighth Brigade of the Energy Police in Basra Governorate were able to arrest 8 suspects and seize their vehicle while trying to enter the southern Rumaila oil field with forged security permits.”
The statement added, “In the same context, the Third Brigade detachments in the Kadhimiya area, next to Karkh in the capital, Baghdad, raided a den used for recycling and smuggling petroleum derivatives. The operation resulted in the arrest of an accused person and the seizure of 3 vehicles carrying iron tanks filled with an oil product of unknown quantity and quality.”
The statement continued, “The Fourth Brigade detachments on the Rusafa side were able to arrest an accused person and seize his vehicle loaded with an unknown quantity of petroleum products due to a discrepancy between the (silah) numbers fixed on the vehicle and the others mentioned in the loading document.”
The statement confirmed that “the accused were detained and all the seized items were confiscated, in preparation for completing the investigations and presenting them to the competent judiciary based on Law No. (41) of 2008 regarding combating the smuggling of oil and its derivatives.”
